Early Intervention

Speech, language and play therapy is appropriate for young children who are late talkers, have trouble understanding what is said to them and/or following directions, and children with developmental delays. Parents and caregivers are highly encouraged to participate in therapy sessions to learn and practice the strategies used to facilitate a young child’s communication development.

Fun and motivating speech and language stimulation activities are utilized to encourage verbal communication. By modeling and demonstrating sounds, words, gestures and actions in a predictable manner, children are better able to understand, communicate, and participate more actively  during play and throughout their daily routines.

When children are motivated, they are more likely to focus and attend, listen and follow directions, respond to questions, participate in conversation, and process information. Early intervention services can help your child develop and improve their desire and ability to communicate and enhance their understanding of the world around them. Parents and caregivers will learn strategies to help turn everyday activities into enjoyable times for learning and practicing speech and language.

Social Skills

Designed for children who have a difficult time interacting with others in a constructive and appropriate manner. Children with language, learning and behavioral disabilities often need support and direct instruction in order to experience success during play, conversation, and general social interaction. It can often be challenging for children with social challenges to participate in the typical after-school play date, as they lack an understanding of the expectations. Preschool and elementary school-age children can benefit significantly from adult modeling and prompting techniques to enhance engagement and promote mature social skills. Facilitated play dates also serve to help children improve their verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
Social Skills Intervention can:
  • Improve attention and focus
  • Improve self-awareness and self-esteem
  • Improve self-advocacy and proactive communication skills
  • Improve understanding of expected behaviors in a variety of different settings
  • Improve conversation and language skills
Friends, siblings, parents and caregivers are encouraged to participate in social skills therapy. Setting aside this time for you and your child is extremely important and together we can explore specific strategies to maximize the individual time you spend with your child.
